Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) is a government-backed life insurance scheme launched by the Government of India. It was announced by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in May 2015 as one of the social security initiatives under the Jan Suraksha Schemes.

Eligibility: Any Indian citizen between the ages of 18 to 50 years can join the scheme. The scheme offers coverage up to the age of 55 years.

Coverage: PMJJBY provides a life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakh (or the applicable sum assured) to The life cover of Rs. 2 lakhs Premium and Enrollment: The scheme requires the payment of an annual premium, which is typically low and affordable. 
     
 The premium is fixed by the government and is currently set at Rs. 330 per annum. The premium amount is auto-debited from the insured person's bank account.

Enrollment Period: Individuals can enroll in the PMJJBY scheme between 1st June and 31st May of each year. However, new applicants are required to provide a self-certification of good health.

Renewal: The scheme is renewable every year. Individuals need to ensure that their bank accounts have sufficient balance for the annual premium to be auto-debited.

Linked Bank Account: Applicants must have a savings bank account and provide consent to link it to the PMJJBY scheme. The premium is directly debited from the linked bank account.
